Bodybuilding muscled out of 2009 East Asia Games

Bodybuilding will be kicked out of the 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) in Hong Kong because there is no consensus concerning the appointment of international technical officials and judges between international governing agencies.

A spokesman for the East Asian Games Company said the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness and the Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation failed to agree on issues of standards.

The spokesman said it would be inappropriate to organize Bodybuilding events without a list of competent technical delegates and judges, jointly recognized by the two bodies.

Competition events could be challenged by various stakeholders at the end of the games, the spokesman said.

Bodybuilding has not been included in competitions at previous EAG.

The spokesman stressed that the coming games in Hong Kong will be the largest EAG in history, based on the number of events and on the number of athletes, despite the exclusion of bodybuilding. The games will include around 1,700 competitions in 22 sports, with over 3,000 athletes from nine countries and regions, vying for 262 gold medals.

"Preparation work for the Games is in good progress and on schedule," the spokesman said.

A government spokesman said it respected the decision of the organizer.

"Bodybuilding has not been held in previous EAGs and we regret that bodybuilding athletes will not be able to participate in this international event," the spokesman said.

He added that the government will continue to provide support and facilitation to the organization of the game.

"We are confident that the games to be held in December will be successfully organized according to the scheduled plan," the spokesman said.

Timothy Fok, the chairman of the games organizing committee, said the cancellation will affect games preparations because Hong Kong bodybuilding is ranked high in Asia.

Fok urged bodybuilding athletes not to give up, suggesting they can participate in other competitions. Hong Kong bodybuilding athlete Heidi Yu said she is disappointed because Hong Kong is the host city for the games, and turning in an outstanding performance at the games has been one of her dreams.

Hong Kong originally planned to send eight male and eight female bodybuilders to the games.

Tri-set for slow growing muscles

Hey Biglee,

What do you recommend for a slow growing muscle where the rest of the body is growing in balance.Everything is growing but my arms.
Should I increase the number of sets and/or exercises for this area or more forced repsor should I train the area more often or should i do something else?

Thanks,
Ranjeeth

Biglee:

Hey Ranjeeth,

Muscles recover and adapt faster than what we could imagine, so you may have to change exercises to find more workable movements. Try to experiment with Tri-sets.That is performing 3 basic biceps exercises one after the other without much rest(5 - 10 seconds is ok). Then repeat the whole cycle again. Perform 4 such cycles for your biceps. Then similarly do 4 cycle of three different exercises for triceps.

Try to increase workload slightly on each workout and gradually decrease the rest times between exercises in triset to ZERO.

As your arms are lagging you may train them on every 5th or 6th day while you train other body parts once in a week.

Workout hard and you will see results very soon.

Cheers.

Why i am not responding to the same workout routine

Hi Lee,
I have been working out for the past three years and I maintain my workout log for more than two years. A routine which worked for me 8 months back is not working for me now.
I follow 1g of protein per pound of body weight and i followed the same then. What is wrong?

Regards,
bala

Biglee:

Hi Bala,

Maintaining a proper workout and diet log is a great. Hats off to you bro. I really appreciate the effort. The problem you described is a big problem which every bodybuilder maintaining logs would have faced. The solution to it is simple. I will explain it with a different example.
Do you follow boxing? But cant help it... I am gonna explain you with a boxing example...

There are two boxers(1 & 2) they get trained in the same boxing school and boxer 1 beats boxer 2 in a fight. But in two years due to hard work boxer 2 becomes a world champion and boxer 1 is still fighting in small clubs.

Now we fix up for a match between boxer 1 and boxer 2. Boxer 1 thinks that he will follow the same strategy which he followed few years back on boxer 2 and win the match. Do you think boxer 1 can win? Why?

Boxer 1 will actually lose the match because boxer 2 has adapted himself to be a better boxer and went beyond club fights and became a world champ. Similarly your body has responded to that routine some time back but now your body knows how to trick you if you give the same routine. So it is high time you go for a different routine now.

Remember our body has the best adaptation mechanism and it adapts very quickly. So my friend "Change is the only thing that never changes in life."

Cheers

All the best
