From fat to fit

Jay:

My problem area is my stomach -.-

I do about 100 sit ups a day and have been doing so for a few weeks now.

I was just wondering, I’ve read many sources and they all tell me different things and...

When you do for example these sit ups, do you create abs beneath a layer of visible fat or does the fat get burnt away as well?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Biglee:

Hey Jay,

Spot reduction of fats is not possible.

Let me give you an example.

If you pick up a mug of water from a tub of stored water, where does the water come into the mug? Is it from the top, bottom or where? Similarly it’s tough to judge the spots from where fats are pulled out. Nature knows best and the laws of nature cannot be broken either.

Generally women have a tendency to store lots of fat around their stomach, hips and butt. It is nature’s choice to help them in maternity and heat radiation.

So when you do sit ups, it induces work from the stomach muscles and tones them up. But the calories burnt will never be pulled from abs alone. It will be pulled out from the whole body. So for natures choice, the fats will be pulled out lastly from the mid section.

A better approach to attain physical goal would be to do cardio activities like walking or jogging thrice a week. Train abs and other body parts on non cardio days.

some thing like -------
Monday, Wednesday and Friday -> weight training and abs
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday -> cardio
Sunday -> Rest

And do not worry about weight training. Women won’t put on lots of muscle as women do not have the right hormone for it. They lack testosterone and they won’t put on much muscle. Instead weights will improve your posture and womanly shapes. To understand better read this one – Weight training for women.

Diet plays a very vital role in it as much as your workout. To make some adjustments to your current diet, consider the guidelines given here – Fat loss diet for all.

Have a nice time in attaining your physique goal. And enjoy what you do.

All the best

  3. Can we do cardio on weight training days as well?

I burn 600 calories every day i go to the gym. No matter if it is weight training day or rest day.

    Is that OK?

  4. Hi suraj,
Many people find it beneficial in doing cardio all the days

but i do not suggest it often because people do not read the feedback of their body and may overtrain.. if you can read the feedback and stay out of overtraining - you can very well do it bro

    cheers

  5. Is Cardio after weights better for fat loss or does it cause muscle loss?

  6. Hi subin,

Cardio after weights is a good idea to lose fats... Muscle loss id deetemined by the duration of your weight training. You should complete your weights within 40 mins and 20 mins cardio is fine

if you train for 1 hour and then do cardio.... that would not be ideal.....

And eat good quality protien before workout for better results

    cheers

  8. Hi Vijaya Baskaran,

Train your abs like any other muscle. Cos ab exercises only works your muscle and not your fat deposit.. So traing abs thrice a week is sufficient..

  11. Hi vijaya baskaran,

You can visit a phisio to check your fat percentage.. or you can get a fat caliper to measure it yourself...

CArbohydrates and fats are energy sources.. To burn fat under your skin you have to reduce these two... So you will feel a little low on energy... Just concentrate on your goal and you wont feel it difficult... Results will be slow and do not expect fast results... You added fat in 20 years and do not expect to lose it in 2 months.. It will take some time and so be patient to get some results...

Do whole body workouts as suggested in beginners program ( http://biglee-murali.blogspot.com/2008/03/workout-for-beginners-part-1.html ) and on non training days do 50 mins of walking....

this should do it... When you lose fats your chest will also be appearing with good shape...

    Cheers
